Beretta’s Fastest Gun Alive Results

Beretta’s 2008 Fastest Gun Alive - World Championship of Cowboy Fast Draw results are in and Ken Gentry a.k.a. Short Keg, age 64, of Carson City, NV is the Men’s Champion. Winning the Women’s Title is Dinah Eilrich a.k.a. Alotta Lead, age 54, of Fernley, NV.

The event was held over the course of 3 days with 110 of the top competitors from 17 states and Canada competing for the title Beretta’s Fastest Gun Alive. Cowboy Fast Draw is a fast growing sport that uses six-guns and holsters from the time period of the American Old West. Wax bullet ammunition is used that moves as fast as live ammunition, but is safely trapped by a backstop system, this allows championship contests to be held in a wide variety of venues. Gun safety is always the number one concern.

Ken Gentry started shooting the original type of Fast Draw in 1962 and was among the fastest shooters of his day and left the sport for the past 25 years. With the development of Cowboy Fast Draw he decided to get back involved with the sport 2 years ago, since then he has been practicing to get back and even improve upon on his draw. When he recently retired to Carson City he decided to dedicate himself to the sport, this is his first World Championship.

Dinah Eilrich has been involved in the sport for over 17 years, this is her 9th World Championship dating back over the course of 17 years of competition.

Rounding out the Top 5 Men Finals were James Barney, Phoenix, AZ; Gary Wagner, Los Banos, CA; Jon Wilson, Sierra Madre, CA; Cal Eilrich, Fernley, NV. The Women’s Top 5 included Carol Adrian, Marysville, KS; Annette Coffman, Caldwell, ID; Frances Hopper, Idaho City, Idaho and Stormie Mernickle, Fernley, NV.

Gunfighters!!

Nineteen folks showed up on Sunday, August 17th to "slap leather" and try their fast draw skills. The competition was "SERIOUS"!! There were a lot of smiling faces and "steely" eyes! The count was 14 men and 5 women. All were eager to step up to the line and shoot against their "chip drawn" opponent. There were the regulars as well as some new faces. Eddie Woo made his debut!! He was quick to catch on and quick to the light. Another local gunfighter to look out for! We also had a few spectators that stuck around to "try it out" after the match. We hope they will be back to shoot with us regularly.

Its been proven time after time, it could be anybody's day. All the local gunfighters do a great job. And the help from everyone doing what they can to run the match is great! Things run very smoothly.

After several rounds it became clear there would be several tough gunfights before the dust was to settle and the placements known. The women were SMOKIN'!! All five were quick and accurate. It came down to a battle between Singin' Sidekick and Whiskey Trixie. They had to face each other a couple of times because of their lack of "X's". Congrats to Whiskey Trixie for her win and also to Singin" Sidekick for her awesome performance!!

The men's division was also just as exciting! Too many quick guns to make any early predictions. Eventually it came down to two rivals. Bob Ed Pain and Doc Mcwane. They used every Gunfighters trick they could think of!! Not only were they quick on the draw... but also quick at the lip!! Doc was up to his old tricks! Bad mouthing other peoples pets and who knows what else!! Bob Ed just wouldn't let him get away with it. He put Doc to the test. but. again. Doc finished in First Place. AGAIN!! And again with no "x's"!! Congrats Doc!! Also to Bob Ed for giving Doc a "run for his money"!

I also want to let everyone know that Handlebar Slim came through his surgery just fine and is on the road to recovery. He had a triple-by-pass Friday. Trixie and I went to visit him at the hospital today and he is doing well. He said to tell everyone HI and he'll be back on the line soon. Just as a side note, he competed at last Sunday's match after having a heart attack the previous Tuesday!! He also shot faster than he ever has before!! Now. figure that one out!! He's one tough Gunfighter and a great guy as well. We wish him a "SPEEDY" recovery.

We have Cowboy Fast Draw practice on Wednesday the 3rd and Wednesday the 17th. Practice starts at 5:30pm and we shoot till 8:00pm. The fee is $10.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use ODFD's ammo. Our next match is Sunday, September 21st. Registration and pre-match practice starts at 8:30am. Safety meeting at 9:30. The match starts at 10:00am. The fee is $20.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use ODFD's ammo. It will be a best 3 out of 5, 3 "X" match shot at 15 feet. The match will be held at Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club's "D" Range.
